ANNOUNCEMENT - The 2020 CCI Fun Ride has been cancelled

There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. Due to the uncertain and difficult times arising from the COVID-19 pandemic prevailing at present, and in the interests of the health and safety of all concerned, we regret to advise that it has been decided to cancel this year’s ride. Further information and arrangements will be dealt with via email to all registered riders.

When and Where

The 2020 Fun Ride will be held from 14th April to 18th April 2020 (inclusive) and will be based in Pittsworth QLD. Wherever possible the ride follows routes through quieter, surfaced, country roads. 

Format

The Fun Ride will follow a "Hub" format, returning to Pittsworth Showgrounds each afternoon. The ride is not a race and riders will self-select to join one of of four groups based on average speed. Each group will be supported by front and rear safety vehicles. The support vehicles will also carry your lunch. Riders may make arrangements to change groups if they wish and "Sag" support can be arranged for any rider in need. The Fun Ride will proceed through most weather conditions.

Distances and start times

On full days, the ride will average 90km, but the first and last days will be shorter.  Apart from the 1pm start on day one, groups will commence with a staggered departure from 7am each day 

Bicycles

Your bicycle should be mechanically sound and "Street Legal." Recumbent bicycles, Tandems, E-bikes and Hand-cycles are all welcome. It is suggested that you have your bicycle serviced prior to the event and that you carry some basic tools and spares eg: to fix punctures etc. 

Accommodation and Facilities

Parking for rider's vehicles, including caravans and camper trailers will be available on site at Pittsworth Showgrounds. Under-cover facilities and amenities will be available for riders who wish to just roll out their swag/bedding/stretcher etc. (this cost is included in the nomination fee). If you wish to book a caravan/camper trailer site, it will cost $90- in addition to the nomination fee (which must be submitted with your nomination form). Hotel/motel accommodation is also available in Pittsworth for riders who wish to make their own arrangements.

Entry Fee and Fundraising

The Entry Fee is $275- per rider, or for families $225- per rider. As at 28/2/20 registration fee is reduced by $50- per person, but no cycling jersey can be provided. entry fee includes; riding jersey, the under-cover camping facilities and amenities, breakfast/lunch/dinner each day, and snacks/fruit/water at rest stops. As the purpose of the Fun Ride is to raise funds to support the work of the Children's Cancer Institute, each participant must also raise a minimum of $300- for the Children's Cancer Institute.

What to bring

You should bring clothing, bedding, towel and toiletries, any medications, cycling spares and dining utensils (bowl, plate, mug, knife/fork/spoon and water bottle). Water is supplied at breaks but not sports drinks. You may also like to consider bringing items such as a torch, detergent and clothes line, sunscreen, hat, and warm clothes for the evenings.   

Transport of bicycles

You will be advised if bicycle transport options to and from the event become available.

Insurance

You will need to make any insurance arrangements for personal accident etc if you wish to be covered during the event. You may wish to consider the cover included in Bicycle Queensland membership. You will be advised if other insurance options through Lions become available. 

Fundraising

After nomination riders will receive advice regarding the establishment of a Children's Cancer Institute online donation portal.

FAQs

Is there a minimum age for riders? 

Riders 16 years of age and under must ride with a parent or guardian.


Is there a limited number of riders?

Yes, the number of riders is limited by a Police Permit and nominations will be accepted on a first in, first served basis.


What if I have special food requirements?

Please complete the appropriate section on the Nomination Form.


Can I cancel my nomination?

Cancellations must be in writing and received up to and including the close of entry date (5pm, 28th February 2020).
